Markham is a vibrant city just outside of the city of Toronto with its own kind of culture and a variety of activities to do, especially during the summer. Whether you’re spending a day here, or you’ve always lived here there’s a lot going on so here’s the best things to see and do in Markham this summer.

Almost every city or town you visit will offer some kind of shopping, and Markham is no exception. There’s virtually an unlimited number of stores to spend your money at while you’re here, including Pacific Mall. This unique mall was built to resemble Pacific Place in Hong Kong, and it features mostly Asian products and goods. It can be found at 4300 Steeles Ave in Markham. This shopping center gives a unique cultural vibe, showcasing Markham’s multiculturalism.
Enjoy Some Indoor Activities
Markham is home to numerous recreational and indoor activity centers, so there’s no shortage of fun activities to take part in this summer. If you don’t have a pool, take a swim at Markham Pan Am center which was used in previous Pan Am Games and can be found at 16 Main Street, Unionville. Other centers, like the Markham Village Community Centre, at 6041 Highway 7, have indoor skating rinks, but the Thornhill Community Centre, located at 7755 Bayview Ave, has a both a track and a gym for you to enjoy.

The only one of its kind in Markham, Joyride 150 offers riders the ability to ride a bike indoors all year round, regardless of what the weather is like outside. It’s an indoor bike park that is full of ramps, skinnies and lines. What’s more is there’s even an 800m mountain bike trail to enjoy. No matter what your skill level is, there’s a place for you to ride at Joyride 150. If you’re into BMX-style biking there’s a half-pipe, rails and steps for you to practice your skills on. Joyride, found at 150 Bullock Dr, is open 7 days a week, even until 10 pm on the weekends.
Go for a Picnic
Known for its large, beautiful lake Toogood park covers 330 hectares of land. There is a trail that encircles the pond so you can enjoy a walk, or even a peaceful run, in the park. Pack a picnic lunch, grab a good book and head on over to 58 Sciberras Rd. to enjoy a beautiful day in Markham’s largest park.
